ON 'SAVING' BOOKS

It's a very comforting knowledge to me that there still exist delightful books by wonderful authors that I haven't as yet read...! :-)

While anticipating a good book is part of the fun in the reading process for me, but I don't like the suspense of waiting for the next book in the series to be published ...as I prefer the joy and comfort of knowing that there are at least some new books by my favourite authors available for me to read them whenever I wish to...! :-)

For this reason, I often tend to 'save' books.

Though in my opinion, it would be more accurate to say that I 'savour' books...!

That is, whenever I feel that a certain series is becoming one of my favourites, I stop reading when there are still few books left in that series ...and keep them to be enjoyed later as a special treat ...but not until new books are added in that series...! :-)

Another advantage is, that by keeping the books in reserve like this, it makes it easier for me to maintain my composure when one of my favourite authors contemplates the retirement of that particular series.

Moreover, whenever an author adds yet another new book to one of my favourite series, my pleasure is immense...

...and the longer my 'books-to-read' list grows, the happier I get...! :-)

  1. I need to read as soon as possible. The only thing I ever try to "save" are my chocolates! I want the last slab to last as long as possible. So if there is a book written by an author I like, I will read it not "save" it.

    1. Well, everyone has their own reading style that they enjoy ...and I must admit that there are certain times when even I give in to the temptation to read some long awaited book as soon as it's published :-)

Anyway, thanks for commenting ...and for sharing your views on this topic...!

  2. PS. My chocolates comes from abroad, so can't just go to a shop and buy more.

    1. Most of my favourite chocolates are easily obtained from where I live so that's not usually an issue for me ...though there are few that are not so readily available in Germany ...and those I also 'save' ...to be eaten when I treat myself to reading the books by my favourite authors...! :-)

  4. I save books and sometime reread them, and like Huma, I save chocolate. Well, I guess I eat it more than save it.

  5. Ramla Zareen, I know other readers who also save books to read later, to savour. I'm more like Huma and want to read the book right away. Of course with print books, I usually wait for the paperback if it is in hardcover. But an eBook I will purchase right away.

    1. Hi Susan, thanks for letting me know about other readers who share my habit of saving books for later ...it's good to know that I am not the only one to do so...!

Also thanks for telling about your own reading methods ...I can empathize with the desire to read a book as soon as it's published ...and there are times when even I give in to that temptation :-)

  6. OH My Gosh you guys! Now I want Chocolate! LOL..... and I only do imported expensive chocolate too. The Lindt factory ruined domestic chocolate for me. except reeses PB cups.... Love PB Cups!

I also save books. I save them to reread, or to stock pile for a rainy tea/coffee/read day! I'd like to say save, but really the word that describes it is hoarding :)
I have 7 books from the library on my desk right now...... and 18 or so Ive bought or have gotten as gifts sitting on my shelf! 2 on my ipad in my kindle app and 2 on my Kobo. Yes, Hoard is a good word.
Thank you for the invite to your blog Ramla.... none of my friends read, so it is nice to talk books with people!
